Heading into March & Recap of February
A message from Luke
As we enter the month of March, I cannot believe how fast this year is going. I have loved being out and about in the electorate every day. In the jampacked month of February I was able to attend several schools leadership ceremonies, aged care awards, business visits, family fun days, and charity events. Parliament is back in session for the year and I have had the privilege of representing you, the people of Petrie, on issues that are important to you. Heading into March, I look forward to meeting more of you around the electorate and celebrating how wonderful Petrie is! Wishing you all a blessed Easter filled with the joy of the resurrection and the love of Christ. May this season renew your faith and bring abundant blessings to you and your loved ones. But the good news is that in October of this year, we will have a chance to start showing Labor the door in Queensland. We already have one candidate pre-selected in the seat of Petrie. Kerri-Anne Dooley will run as the LNPâs candidate in Redcliffe, while Bancroft, Murrumba, Aspley and Sandgate will all be selecting candidates in the coming months. I am looking forward to seeing what this year holds and to once again represent you as your Federal MP.
GRAFFITI CLEAN UP PROJECT
Along with a team of volunteers, we took to Deception Bay and Mango Hill to clean up graffiti that I have noticed has not been cleaned up. Graffiti is a blight on our community and needs to be rectified. By cleaning up tagged areas around the electorate our community can show more pride.
Without kind volunteers none of this would’ve been possible.
Thank you to Craig and Amanda from Inspirations Paint Kippa-Ring for donating several litres of paint.Â
They love to see our community being cleaned up from the blight of graffiti.Â
Â
A massive thank you to Didi from Enhance Painting for donating his time over the week to help clean up our community. Didi taught us some painting tips over the week as well, and he was honoured to be doing something positive for his community. Thanks so much for your help, Didi. |
Year 12 Leadership Ceremony
Congratulations to Madeline & Madison on being elected as the School Captions this year and to all other students who received leadership roles.
Thank you to Bracken Ridge SHS for inviting me to speak on the importance of leadership.
Mobile Offices
Held at White Coffee Co. in Bracken Ridge and at Soul Op Shop & Espresso in Bridgeman Downs, I had the privilege of meeting so many community members and constituents, and engaged in conversations about what matters most to you.Â
S-Cool Beans CafÃĐ
Aspley State High Schoolâs cafÃĐ is run entirely by students! It was great to visit their cafÃĐ and chat with the students.
Thank you to staff and students who make this wonderful initiative possible.Â
P.S. The coffee was delicious!
Welcoming Liturgy
A great afternoon at St Josephâs Catholic Primary for a Welcoming Liturgy.
Thank you to Father Bryan for a wonderful mass to welcome the preps into their first year of primary school.
Aged Care Awards
Celebrating and thanking the aged care workers at Carseldine Greens Care Community, as they exemplify the spirit of Petrie with their kindness each and everyday.
Thank you to the staff for the tireless work that they do in caring for these residents.Â
Year 6 Leadership CeremonyÂ
Congratulations to the Year 6 Leaders from Aspley East State School.
As leaders its important to show Pastoral Care to all students at school. If you see someone looking down, be their friend, cheer them up and put a smile on their face.
2024 PARLIAMENTâ
Parliament has returned for this year, and I have the privilege of representing Petrie and being able to bring forward the issues that matter most to you. If there is something you would like me to raise in Parliament, please email me at Luke.Howarth.mp@aph.gov.au
LABOR'S NEW VEHICLE TAX
Anthony Albanese is going to introduce a new vehicle tax for 4WDs, SUVs and Ute's, with his Vehicle Emission Standards. These vehicle prices will be forced up by thousands of dollars from next year to help the Albanese Government subsidise the price of individuals buying electric vehicles. Industry analysis of Energy Minister Chris Bowenâs proposed New Vehicle Efficiency Standard predicts the cost of some popular models such as the Toyota Landcruiser could rise as much as $25,000. Cost of living is already through the roof, we don't need more taxes on the family ute and car. Stay tuned for more information.
