Budget wrap up.

Thursday, 1 June 2023

The Federal Budget is an opportunity for the Government of the day to demonstrate their priorities to the Australian people and outline an action plan to address some of the most pressing concerns for our country. Australians listened intently to the Treasurers 2023-24 Budget, in the hope that the promised cost-of-living relief would be delivered.

Our responsibility as the Opposition is to communicate and consider these budget measures back to the local people we represent and offer alternate policies that will help our constituents and all Australians get ahead. Some of the announcements presented by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Peter Dutton in his Budget-in-Reply speech were;

  • The restoration of Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions from 10 to 20.
  • $4 million in funding for Ovarian Cancer Australia and a review of women’s health items available through Medicare and PBS.
  • Banning of gambling ads during live sporting events
  • Incentivising unemployed Australians to take up work by increasing how much can earnt before their JobSeeker payments are reduced.
  • And much more…
