Due to the lack of sufficient lighting, participants are not able to safely engage in the sport of their choice which leads to a lack of community participation.
Everyone in our community deserves the opportunity to have safe, efficient and continuous access to appropriate sporting facilities, including sufficient lighting at the Peninsula Cricket Club (PCC).
âI want to see not only participants and patrons of the Peninsula Cricket Club access this facility, but also people of all ages and abilities that can use the upgraded facility safely. The Redcliffe Peninsula does not have appropriate facilities to cater to this need given the lack of sufficient lighting. That is why I am fighting for an upgrade to the Peninsula Cricket Club. Sadly, the Albanese Labor Government has ignored this projectâ. Shadow Minister Howarth explained.
âThat is why I am proud to announce a commitment of $135,000 to deliver competition-grade lighting at the home of the Peninsula Cricket Club, Filmer Parkâ.
The Peninsula Cricket Club alongside the Redcliffe Junior Cricket Club, boast 18 playing sides across the Summer and Winter seasons combined. Underage cricket is also supported via the âMaster Blastersâ program in summer, which attracts approximately 50 junior players and their families to the venue on Friday evenings. Seniors/Over 40âs cricket is also included throughout both the summer and winter seasons.
The facility is also used by community groups for meetings and private function events. Charities including the Queensland Blind Cricket Association and Tribe Social Belonging utilise the venue (FOC). Multi-cultural events hosted by members of the Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Indian communities have also been welcomed at the club.
The PCC has an ambition to field female, more junior and over 40âs teams, and grow participation in the sport in general. To be able to adequately do so, lighting in particular that provides game standard visibility, is vitally important to ensuring we are able to host matches outside of traditional weekend daytime competitions.
âI am proud to support grass-roots sporting clubs in my Electorate, and I will continue to fight for infrastructure upgradesâ.
