SPOTLIGHT ON STEM FOR NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

Sunday, 11 August 2019

Locals in Petrie will get the chance to celebrate all things science and technology with a series of events as part of National Science Week.

Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth said National Science Week was a great chance to bring science to the Petrie electorate, allowing residents to meet scientists, discuss hot topics, do an experiment and celebrate the social and economic impact of science on our nation.

“We can’t underestimate the importance of science, research and innovation, which are key drivers of the Morrison Government’s plan for a stronger economy,” Mr Howarth said.

“It’s particularly important that we inspire local kids to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

“Many of the jobs of the future will require STEM skills and it’s crucial that students are studying it through primary and high school.”

“I’ve made it a priority to educate my own three sons on the importance of STEM, and how important it is going to be in the future as many industries move towards computerised technology.”
