In a fantastic result for the community, Australian patients are getting more benefit from Medicare than ever before.
GP bulk billing rates increased to 85.4 per cent during the second half of 2016 (an increase from 84.7 per cent for the same period in 2015).
This is the highest figure ever for the July to December period and is 3.5 percentage points higher than the same period in 2012 under Labor.
Patients received 73.5 million GP general attendance services paid for by Medicare in the second half of 2016 (up from 72.1 million for the same period in 2015).
These figures mean that the majority of patients paid nothing out of their own pockets when visiting their GP.
In addition, initiatives such as Primary Health Networks and Health Care Homes will have a major impact over the medium to long term by improving management of patients with chronic illness.
The Turnbull Government has a rock solid commitment to Medicare and funding is increasing every year.
