A re-elected Turnbull Government will provide community groups across in Petrie with $100,000 towards installing solar panels and battery storage.

Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth MP said he was excited local community organisations would get the opportunity to install solar, to lower electricity costs and help reduce emissions.

“The Solar Communities program will provide funding for community groups across Australia to install rooftop solar PV, solar hot water or battery storage systems,” Mr Howarth said.

Endeavour Foundation in Kippa Ring will receive $10,000 to assist with the cost of installing solar.

“Endeavour Foundation is a great local community organisation that provides specialised education, training, and supported employment to individuals with disabilities,” Mr Howarth said.

The Coalition recognises the important role community and household solar plays in Australia’s transition to a low emissions economy with an increase in renewable energy. Other community groups that will receive grants in Petrie include:

  • Encirle ($10,000)
  • Redcliffe Senior Citizens ($15,000)
  • Deception Bay Soccer Club ($15,000)
  • Lions Recycle for Sight Australia ($5,000)
  • Bracken Ridge Scout Hall ($5,000)
  • Ridge Hills Football Club ($15,000)
  • Bald Hill Scouts Group ($5,000)

Environment Minister Greg Hunt said unlike Labor, the Coalition Government “is committed to tackling climate change without hiking up power bills for community groups, families and businesses and putting Australian jobs at risk”.
