Border Security Success
The Coalition resolve to keep our borders secure through Operation Sovereign Borders and to halt illegal maritime arrivals remains strong.
The success of Operation Sovereign Borders has meant that here has been over 1000 days without a boat arrival, and importantly, no deaths at sea.
As a result of this success we have stopped the evil people smuggling trade, closed 17 detention centres, removed all children from detention, and increased the humanitarian program to 18,750 places by 2018-19.
The Coalition has been clear that no-one will resettle in Australia with the closure of the Manus Regional Processing Centre on 31 October 2017. Refugees can settle in Papua New Guinea and will receive support from the PNG Government, or refugees accepted by US authorities can also resettle in the United States.
The Coalition is committed to ensuring that the illegal maritime pathway to Australia remains closed.
